Notes
from KC Musical Director, Roger Griffith ---
We
will be joined this season by keyboardist/bassist, Larry Knechtel
who lived here in Whatcom County until recently. Larry
is, perhaps, best known for his piano intro and accompaniment
on the original version of Paul Simon's song, "Bridge
Over Troubled Water." Larry won a grammy award for this
musical creation.

I
have been working with Larry
to select and musically design the concert for December, and
can say that
he is an absolute master in the musical arena. I feel privileged
and honored to work with him. He has worked in Hollywood, Nashville,
New York, and on tour. His playing has been included as a part
of many recordings which you may have heard.
The
music we have chosen includes, as always, some songs from the
past and some new material, but also music that intrigued or
was of interest to Larry.
For
this concert he will be playing piano, electric piano, and B-3 organ.
He will be joined on a few songs
by his son, Lonnie, on saxophone/bass, Mike Gallagher on drums,
and by Lou Nicsic, from our chorus, on bass and harmonica.
The
new songs are both beautiful and interesting, and include several
songs that I have wanted to do for a long time, including: "Something
So Right" and "Loves Me Like a Rock" by Paul
Simon, "A Simple Song" by Lyle Lovett and "Love
Minus Zero/No Limit" by Bob Dylan. Add to this some of
the best of our best gospel and South African songs and the
Kulshan Chorus will bring you a midwinter concert that will
be a colorful and powerful part of your holiday season.
