The
90 voice Kulshan Chorus includes men, women and children
of all ages
and is well known in Bellingham and throughout Whatcom County
for its colorful and powerful concerts. Our musical repertoire
is taken from sources throughout the world. We sing with a
heartfelt desire for peace and human dignity, in honor of human
and cultural diversity and stewardship of the world.
This season
we focus our musical attention on love, honor and respect
-- something everyone needs. With a band made up of
several of our favorite musicians , and musicians
whom many of you have immensely enjoyed [see musicians], we plan to provide
you
with
a musical experience of powerful and uplifting music, songs
that speak to the best of our own customs and culture as
well as those of other peoples and lands.
We sing
in honor of human
dignity and cultural differences, with songs as diverse
as:
Cakewalk Into Town (amusing funky blues)
Carrighfergus
and
In Aimsir Bhaint Am Fheir (from the Celtic tradition of
Scotland and Ireland - the latter sung in Irish Gaelic),
Louisiana
1927 (recalling the great floods of times past),
Manjani
(a critique
of central African culture by Angolan songwriter Sam Mangwana),
Corcovado (a beautiful Bossa Nova from Brazil),
plus Peace
Train, Many Rivers To Cross and other delightful surprises
you may well recognize.
These wonderful songs are likely
to bring tears to your eyes, set your toes tapping and
your hands
clapping, or bring on the urge to dance in the aisles. You
might even decide that you want to sing in the chorus yourself!
In addition, we will perform three favorites from our concert
in Spring 2004
Musette and Chanson: Music of the French
Café -
with the wonderful sound of the French accordion.
Attend
and bring your family and friends! This
will be an entertaining and heartwarming concert that we
guarantee you will remember.
Put
the date on your calendar (April 29th, Saturday) and
join us for another evening of
wonderful music. You won't be disappointed.
