On
December 12 the 85+ voice Kulshan Chorus brings you to
a concert of World Music – a collection of musical
jewels designed to add sparkle and zest to your life
by making this celebration a part of the mid-winter holiday.
This
season begins our 21st year producing colorful and powerful
concerts for audiences in Bellingham and Whatcom County.
We will be joined by Steve Rice, keys, and Clipper Anderson,
bass, both from Seattle, and, new to us tonight, Ricardo
Guity, percussionist from Honduras now living in Seattle.
See below for more data on these wonderful musicans.[musicians]
Our
concert, “The Times They Are A-Changin’,” features
songs by Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Argentine chanteuse
Mercedes Sosa, Aretha Franklin, Elton John, Keb Mo and
many others including local songwriter Linda Allen.
Issues
of diversity, community, and peace are certainly on everyone’s
mind these days, not only in our neighborhood, our city,
and our country, but globally as well. This season we
direct our attention to these concerns.
There
are many works of art that address the need for social
change. We realize, however, that song, poetry or art
in any form are rarely an end in itself when it comes
to producing shift in societal thinking, rather, the
ideas generated by such works may alter our thoughts
and perhaps lead to social change. So, “Si, Se
Puede” (Yes, we can), redirect our action should
we have lost our “Spirit In the Dark,” and “Come
Together” to “make this land a better land,
than the world in which we live” as addressed in “Yes,
We Can Can”. As well, we can “help each man
be a better man, with the kindness that we give,” not
only for ourselves, but for our children and our children’s
children in all generations to come, for, to quote Bob
Dylan, “The Times They Are A-Changin’”.
During
this holiday season when the focus is on love, peace
and compassion, join us for an uplifting and empowering
Midwinter concert.
Bring
your family and friends to a celebration of fun and mid-winter
warmth. You won’t be disappointed.
– 7:30
PM at Bellingham High School auditorium.
Hope to see you there.
