This may be common sense but must be said never-the-less.....
it's tight quarters up there on the stage, the lights can get hot, singers can be nervous so:

    • Please do not wear hairspray, perfume or aftershave to concerts.
    • No drugs or alcohol, especially during performances.
    • Take a bath, brush your teeth, etc.

CONCERT COSTUME

Black lowers and solid colored uppers.
Each section has its own color scheme. see photo
Check out the Photo Galleries for ideas.

Black lowers

Black pants, black skirts, black stockings (not sheer) and black dress shoes.
     * High heels are a painful risk considering the risers you must negotiate
     * No* light or white socks or shoes.
     * No* bare legs or ankles - wear black socks, or black stockings or tights if you are wearing a skirt. Opaque is best. REASON - The stage lights enhance light colors and bare legs - it looks funky and distracting to the audience.

Colorful uppers
*solid* colors for your shirts and tops.
     - Fabrics should be solid color, not prints, and any bright, shiny material such as silk, rayon, velvet, satin or other elegant texture. No T-shirts, jersey or denim please.
    - Your color is the chosen color for your section - see chart below. Please avoid primary colors, stay with secondary and blended solid colors.

     - "Elegant" is Roger's word, tasteful. No low cut or sleeveless gowns. Length of women's skirts should be to above the knee or lower. No mid thigh lengths please...from the audience mid-thigh is shorter than you think!
Sparkles and jewelry are encouraged.
     - Tenors, Baritones and Basses - brighten up those colors, on stage bright teal and purple look great. [see photo] Notice how the dark shades just dull out under the lights?

If you have any questions, please ask a board member.

Sopranos
golden yellows
orange-yellows, gold and ochre
Altos
watermelon, apricot orange-red
Tenors
teals, aqua
blue-greens
Baritones  Basses
purples blue-violet, periwinkle

SOLOISTS
Soloists may wear any elegant outfit that falls within the color scheme of their section with black lowers.

Advice from Roger
It is highly recommended that singers do the following:

1.  Learn the words to any songs that you do not already know.  Say them, recite them, repeat the parts that you find tricky.
The goal is to use your sheet music as a guide, not to be cemented to every word on every page.

2. Regularly sing along on your part while listening to the rehearsal CD.
If you are familiar with the tune, the words, the stops and starts, most of the recordings - especially those by the Kulshan Chorus - will greatly assist in learning the music.

3. Attend rehearsals. Make attending a priority.*

4. Study your music.  The rehearsals can provide you with every possible assistance in learning a song, but how well you learn it is up to you.  Don't hang back.
Do your study now, and then you can have loads of fun, knowing the songs and singing them without fear of not knowing where you are, or what you are singing.

5. Always know what you are doing.  The recommended study, above, will lead to less confusion, and make singing all the more fun.

6. Sing with good breath support and listen for blend - match your voice to the section, watch for directing cues, get your face out of the book as often as possible.

*80 percent minimum seasonal rehearsal attendance is required of singers.
