“The Water Prelude” is the opening track of Christopher Tin’s 2014 classical crossover album The Drop That Contained the Sea, a song cycle of ten movements each inspired by a different form of water in the global water cycle.

The piece sets the album’s central metaphor: that every drop of water contains the essence of the sea, a Sufi concept reflecting how individual human experiences embody universal truths.
